  • Are you currently in year 10 with a strong interest in Heavy Vehicle Mechanics? Do you wish to complete your VCE and get a head start on your career?
    GTES, together with Hartwigs Shepparton, are seeking applications from enthusiastic and motivated students in year 11 who wish to work towards a trade qualification while still undertaking their VCE.
    Hartwigs are regional Australia’s largest truck, trailer and equipment dealer and have earnt an excellent reputation in the industry based on the realisation of superior service and customer satisfaction.
    During this School Based Apprenticeship you will complete the equivalent of the first year of your trade and it will count towards your VCE with a total of 4 units over the two years (2 units per year). This will provide you with the opportunity to obtain extensive on-the-job training as well as working toward a Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology.
    To be successful in this position you must be mechanically-minded and be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in pursuing a career in this industry.

    Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Mechanic

    You will learn from the best in the business if successful this role!     As an Apprentice Welder you will be required to assist in the preparation, measurement, and cutting of metal components, interpret drawings and plans and produce a range of metal fabricated products, predominantly steel and alloy vehicle trays and bull bars,  using an assortment of tools and fabrication techniques including MIG welding, TIG welding, plasma profile cutting and oxy cutting. Upon completion of this 4 year apprenticeship you will obtain a Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade.

     

    To be successful in this position you must be reliable, mature-minded, willing to learn, able to show initiative, possess excellent problem-solving skills and have a genuine interest in pursuing a career in this industry.

The position responsibilities include, but are not limited to: processing applications and requests; undertaking cash handling responsibilities; completion of workplace documentation, preparing correspondence; processing mail; and providing information and advice to customers.

    To be successful in this role you must be well presented, have excellent communication skills and attention to detail, and be competent in the use of computers. At the end of the 2 year traineeship period you will receive a Certificate IV in Customer Engagement.

    As a Trainee in Outdoor Power Equipment Technology your main responsibilities include; troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to servicing and repairs of a range of outdoor power equipment such as stationary petrol and diesel agricultural engines, pumps, ride on mowers, small construction equipment, chainsaws, lawnmowers, trimmers, etc.

    The successful applicant will:-

    • Be self-motivated and also be able to work in a team environment and assist others as required
    • Have good interpersonal and customer service skills and be able to articulate technical issues to customers
    • Have competent computer skills
    • Be prompt, honest and reliable

    On completion of your traineeship you will receive a nationally recognised qualification in Outdoor Power Equipment Technology Certificate III.
